Although I'm a licensed General Building Contractor, I've been doing roof beam restoration almost exclusively since 1990. Most of my work during this time has been on the many Streng homes in the Sacramento and Davis areas. Streng was the primary MCM (aka Mid-Century Modern or Post War Modern) builder in the area, and helping to preserve this unique Carter Sparks architecture has been gratifying.

Effective roof beam restoration must begin with an eye towards dry rot prevention. Any roof beam repairs, indeed any exposed roof beams, should be protected by correctly designed and properly installed beam caps.

 

After 35 years of providing hands-on repairs, I have moved on to consultations only. I am currently writing a how-to book on beam repair and my method of the Century Beam.
